Death Comes to Marlow is a warm and humorous murder mystery that challenges even the eccentric members of the Marlow Murder Club, although they of course have no intention of being beaten, even by an impossible crime. When Sir Peter Bailey, a wealthy Marlow resident, offers Judith a last-minute invitation to his pre-wedding festivities, something about the gesture makes Judith uneasy.

Judith is surprised when Sir Peter Bailey—the head of one of the town’s most preeminent families—asks her to attend a garden party at his home the day before his wedding to his live-in nurse.
As she tends to do when there’s a mystery to be solved, Judith decides to put it out of her mind by indulging in a spot of wild swimming in the Thames, which is conveniently accessible from her back garden.Judith barely has chance to explain Sir Peter’s surprise invitation to Becks before the genteel peace of the garden party is shattered by a loud argument among Sir Peter, his fiancée/former nurse Jenny Page, and his son Tristram. While this definitely isn’t a thriller with lots of plot twists, the characters in this book are what make this book a standout.
